This newsletter includes:

  • Books that interest me in the WESTWORLD BookSweeps contest

  • A 50-word sci-fi story “Parallel Mother”

What you can expect in my newsletters: musings on things I'm thinking about, an occasional short story, links to articles I enjoyed, updates on writing projects, books I recommend, freebies and deals I hear about, news, upcoming events where I'll be, and more.

Newsletters go out mostly monthly, usually on Saturday. This is a bonus NL in case you haven’t had a chance to enter the contest yet.

Earlier this month, I invited you to join this BookSweeps contest for WESTWORLD Prizes. You probably recognize the graphic. But I should mention some of the other books included. There are 30 sci-fi novels that would appeal to fans of Westworld.

More on that below…

You may already have my AI sci-fi book, “Body Suit”, but if you are like me, you’re always looking for more reading material. It’s time to check out some of the other authors and books in this contest.

Several of them look interesting to me. Here are a few:

  • “Liquid Cool: The Cyberpunk Detective Series” by Austin Dragon has a lot of good reviews, like one that said this: “Austin Dragon perfectly captures my idea of an irreverent detective in a futuristic, urban cyber setting. His story telling and dialogue is captivating…“ I’m not necessarily looking for detective stories with hints of humor, but this one might be a breath of fresh air.

  • “Killer in the Retrograde” by Bruce Perrin caught my attention with this sentence in the description. “Trying to unearth a killer… Doug creates a mental landscape of Josh’s past, a retroscape, starting in the mid-2030s.” I was intrigued by the premise.

  • “The Secret of Giza” by Ken Warner piqued my curiosity. It’s YA alien adventure that reviewers called “a page-turner” with “plenty of twists and surprises”. It looks like an enjoyable read.

  • And “The Lodestone Puzzle” by Lynn Emery is a murder mystery set in space with what looks like government secrets, suspense undertones. Worth checking out.

I’m sure there are more I would enjoy reading. And by the way, there are no perks for me in promoting these or any other authors in the contest. I am just sharing my first impression of books I may buy in the end. (In fact, I already purchased one of them today because of this bundle.)

Entering the contest is free.

It would be a pity to send out a newsletter without including something I’ve written. Here is a link to a 50 word story I put together as part of a writing challenge.

The title, “Parallel Mother”, gives the key to understanding the story.

I’m ready for spring and better weather. Aren’t you?
